Washington Wizards: Active Trade Deadline

Washington didn’t let Bradley Beal’s injury stop them from being active at the trade deadline.

The moves confirmed what many have said… Ted Leonsis doesn’t have the stomach for a rebuild.

Dallas gets:
Spencer Dinwiddie
Davis Bertans

Washington gets:
Kristaps Porzingis
2022 second-round pick

This is a swap of a bunch of unwanted contracts. There were several reports of locker room issues with Spencer Dinwiddie and how vocal he was. Sending him out and bringing back a certified diva was an interesting move by Tommy Sheppard until you consider that Sheppard’s desire to have as many non-American players makes the Wizards the Dallas Mavericks of the East.

Phoenix gets:
Aaron Holiday

Washington gets:
Trade exception
Cash considerations

This is a move made for the books. Nothing to see here.

Charlotte gets:
Montrezl Harrell

Washington gets:
Ish Smith
Vernon Carey Jr.
Conditional second-round pick (2023 or 2024 from Boston via Charlotte)
Trade exception

Harrell was the odd man out because the Wizards have a gluttony of bigs. The repeating skill-set allowed Washington to get a trade exception (their second of the day) and a conditional pick. And, of course, Ish Smith. No one loves Ish Smith more than the Washington Wizards.
