George Mason got off to a fast start and then fought off St. Bonaventure in the 75-66.
It was Mason’s (10-7, 3-1 A 10) third straight win.
D’Shawn Schwartz would lead the Patriots in scoring with 20 points. He was one of four George Mason players to score in double-digits.
George Mason jumps out to a 9-0 lead with relative ease.
Schwartz, Josh Oduro, and Davonte Gaines combined to score Mason’s first 22 points of the game. The defense was also getting the job done forcing six turnovers in a little over nine minutes.
The Patriots were hot from the three point line all night. They hit seven three pointers in the first half and finished with 15 made three pointers for the game.
Mason would finish the first half with 17 points scored off turnovers and nine second chance points but only found themselves with a 33-29 lead at halftime.
The Bonnies hit the first basket of the half capping off a 6-0 run that started at the end of the first half.
Mason would respond in a big way. The Patriots would run off 15 straight points. The run included a four point play by Gaines.
Mason would push the lead to 51-33, their largest of the game.
But the Bonnies wouldn’t die. An 8-0 run brought the Bonnies within 10 at 51-41.
After Mason pushed the lead back up to 13, the Bonnies made another changer. Kyle Lofton’s three pointer got the Bonnies to within eight at 57-49 with 10:03 left.
Eventually the Bonnies cut it to four on two free throws by Osun Osunniyi with 5:31 left.
Once again, Mason would respond. Devon Cooper would hit a three followed by an Xavier Johnson three and the lead grew back to 10.
