The rise of celebrity fights and exhibitions in boxing has been met with mixed reactions.
On the one hand, some fight fans love the idea of seeing Mike Tyson again, even if it is just and exhibition. For others, they find entertainment in watching people from other entertainment industries box.
We’ve come a long way from the “outrage” over Floyd Mayweather Jr. fighting Conor McGregor. That was seen by many, as a boxing sideshow. That is starting to change as long as the fights don’t involve Mayweather. It seems like fans want to watch people that they like, even if it means seeing fighters with checkered pasts like Tyson.
Mayweather’s upcoming exhibition with Logan Paul has been called off. It was slated for February 20th. The desire to see Mayweather fight is all but dead because one of the main reasons behind his ability to make money was the possibility of his losing. Failing to win an exhibition would bring joy to some but, in reality, it doesn’t take Mayweather’s “0” away. Hence, unlike Tyson, there’s no appetite in watching him in an exhibition beyond to one against McGregor.
With that being said, expect the fight to be rescheduled. In both camps, there is the belief that the fight will garner enough interest to achieve two goals. Both fighters will make money and Mayweather will have no chance of losing.
