Wilder-Fury II rematch takes place Saturday night
Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury will meet in the ring again on Saturday night. If the second fight is anything like the first, boxing fans will be in for a treat.
Fury dominated the first fight with his boxing skills until Wilder floored him in the ninth and 12th. Even with the two knockdowns, most thought Fury won the fight.
If Wilder fights the same fight, he won’t be lucky this time around. He can’t mail away the early rounds to Fury like he did the first time around. Wilder’s dependence on one punch (his right hand) could be his undoing. Even in his second fight with Luis Ortiz, Wilder gave away early rounds before knocking Ortiz out in the seventh round. He was down on all three scorecards (58-56 and 59-55 twice) at the time of the stoppage.
Tyson Fury’s road to the rematch wasn’t exactly flawless either. In Fury’s fight against Otto Wallin, he sustained a massive cut over his right eye. Fury was able to navigate his way around the terrible cut en route to a 116-112, 117-111 and 118-110.
If Fury wants to win the second fight, he’ll need to avoid taking unnecessary chances just to try to prove a point. Fury will need to stay outside of the right hand and use Wilder’s dependence on one hand against him.
Prediction:
For Wilder to win, he would have to change his strategy. He wasn’t willing to change in the second Ortiz fight. Fury isn’t Dominic Brezeale or Ortiz. Essentially, Wilder needs for Fury to make a mistake and capitalize off it and this time Fury can’t get up. Wilder can’t outbox Fury for 12 rounds.
Wilder’s biggest chance will be Fury’s desire to get a knockout. If Fury does that, Wilder will knock him out.
Fury is too smart for that and will win by decision.
