Sometimes “beefs” before a fight are manufactured, sometimes they aren’t. In the case of Shakur Stevenson (12-0) and Joet Gonzalez (23-0), the beef literally hits home.
Leading up to their fight, Gonzalez has referenced Stevenson’s relationship with his younger sister on several occasions. “They’ve been dating for about three years. It’s been a while. The thing is, I never liked him since the amateurs. I think he’s not good enough for my sister,” said Gonzalez.
Gonzalez comes into the fight having knocked out his last three opponents after a split decision win over Rafael Rivera.
As for the heavyily decorated Stevenson, the undefeated champ doesn’t lack confidence going into Saturday night’s fight. “It feels amazing being that I’m about to become a world champion,” said Stevenson in a recent interview.
The fight will be dictated by whether Stevenson believes Gonzalez can hurt him. If he doesn’t, he’ll open himself up and look for a spectacular knockout. If he does, Stevenson will exercise some patience and work behind his jab.
Either way, Stevenson’s hand speed will be an issue for Gonzalez all night.
Prediction: Stevenson by Unanimous Decision
