Final: Georgetown 76 Maine 55
Wrap Up
The Hoyas played their first “bad” game of the season. Despite the 21 point win, Coach Ewing made it known that he was “disappointed” in the effort. He had every right to be. The Hoyas looked downright unmotivated at times. But the Hoyas got solid performances from Kaleb Johnson and Jessie Govan. You can argue that Johnson has been their best wing player over the last three games. Tonight, he led the team in scoring with 18 points on 5-10 shooting. Govan has been solid in the middle the entire season and his 16 point-8 rebound effort was yet another dependable effort.
The Good
As mentioned, Johnson has been on a nice little hot streak for the Hoyas. Over the last 3 games he’s shot 18-27 from the field including 7-10 from the three point line. As a team the Hoyas shot 46% from the field and attempted 29 free throws making 22 of them.
The Bad
Jamarko Pickett had the same amount of turnovers and shot attempts (5). As a team, the Hoyas struggled when Maine put pressure on the ball. The twelve turnovers doesn’t indicate how much the Hoyas seemed bothered by the pressure.
Despite being the bigger, more athletic team, Georgetown allowed 14 offensive rebounds. Maine was only able to convert that into 6 points but against better competition, that can come back to haunt them.
Full View
Georgetown was coming off their first true road game and scored an impressive win at Richmond. Maybe it’s a product of their schedule but you could see a letdown coming a thousand miles away. The Hoyas will have a few days off before facing Coppin State on Sunday. That will give Coach Ewing the time he needs to address the little things the Hoyas aren’t doing well.
