We are a few hours away from the first tee shot of the Ryder Cup.
Bryson DeChambeau has positioned himself as the face of the US team, despite Scottie Scheffler being the world’s best golfer.
Team USA is the favorite on FanDuel to win the event despite the success on Europe’s roster.
Odds (FanDuel)
USA -150
Europe +170
Tie +1200
There are several ways to bet on the Ryder Cup, and let’s start with the Foursomes matchups.
Bryson DeChambeau & Justin Thomas (USA) vs. Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton (EUR)
DeChambeau/Thomas +125
Tie +600
Rahm/Hatton +105
The “Tie” bet throws a monkey wrench in the bet. DeChambeau is going to be gassed up, but it will be interesting to see if Justin Thomas can be the Justin Thomas of old.
John Rahm has had some rough patches since joining LIV, but the Ryder Cup has a way of solving that, even with the up-and-down Tyrell Hatton.
Even though DeChambeau and Thomas are a combined 2-5-0 in Foursomes, it was smart to send out Bryson first.
Lean: USA
Scottie Scheffler & Russell Henley (USA) vs. Ludvig Åberg and Matt Fitzpatrick (EUR)
Scheffler/Henley -165
Tie +600
Aberg/Fitzpatrick
I was surprised to see Russell Henley go out in the first session, but if Captain Keegan Bradley were going to do it, Henley would be paired with Scottie Scheffler.
Ludvig Åberg and Matt Fitzpatrick haven’t been paired up before, but I have more confidence in Fitzpatrick than any other player in the matchup.
Lean: EUR, but wouldn’t be shocked if this ends all square.
Collin Morikawa and Harrish English (USA) vs. Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood (EUR)
English/Morikawa +210
Tie +600
McIlroy/Fleetwood +155
On paper, it’s hard to pick against the McIlroy/Fleetwood pairing. Not only should they win, but they shouldn’t come close to going 18 holes.
If Morikawa and English could get this match to the 17th hole, it would be a consolation prize for the USA.
Lean: Heavy on EUR in this one.
Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay (USA) vs. Robert MacIntyre and Viktor Hovland (EUR)
Cantlay/Schauffele -105
Tie +600
MacIntyre/Hovland +290
Schauffele/Cantlay is the least shocking pairing in session one. These two are always playing together.
I never know what to expect out of Hovland. A piece of me thinks he could be the best of the four, even if the Europeans don’t get a point, but there’s a side of me that could see him spray it all over the place.
I hate predicting Ties because I’m terrible at it, but…
