Las Vegas Raiders Keys: Washington Commanders

The Raiders’ offense looked like it was operating in quicksand in the loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

Geno Smith tossed three interceptions, and once again, the Raiders couldn’t run the ball.

Keys:

Get Jeanty Started
It’s hard for Ashton Jeanty to justify his draft position when he’s constantly getting hit in the backfield.

The Raiders’ offensive line has been terrible all season, but they should be able to get something going against a Washington defense that has been solid against the run, but backs have found opportunities.

Chip Kelly also has to help the run game with his playcalling. He’s responsible for finding the right balance.

Tight Ends
Last week, Brock Bowers didn’t look 100% but it shouldn’t matter this week.

Tight ends have success against Washington, and that should mean that Michael Mayer should be able to feast if need be. Yes, Bowers is a special talent, but that doesn’t make Mayer chopped liver.

Mayer had a distinguished college career at Notre Dame, and if Bowers isn’t ready to be full strength, Mayer should be capable of 4-6 catches.

Defensive Feast
Washington is without Jayden Daniels and lost Austin Ekeler for the season last week.

The Raiders’ defense has been better than expected in the first two weeks. That has to continue on Sunday. There’s no reason why Maxx Crosby isn’t his usual menacing self.

The goal for the Raiders’ defense is to give the offense multiple short fields to work with. That can be done on Sunday.
