I’ll say what no one wants to say.
This year’s NFL Draft stinks. I know… I know… We live in an era where you’re not allowed to criticize the self-appointed King without consequences, but the truth is the truth, even when it’s inconvenient.
Why do you think there’s an unhealthy obsession over where Shadeur Sanders’ draft position? It plays into the “needs to be humbled” card that some in America get overly excited over.
The NFL has made the league about the quarterback. It’s the name on the marquee from the streets of New York to the corn fields of the Midwest.
To be honest, there isn’t a quarterback at the top of the draft that America is ready to embrace. It certainly isn’t Cam Ward. If Jaxson Dart were better, he would be the one fans would try to embrace, but Jaxson Dart is Jaxson Dart.
When you look at the top of the draft, Abdul Carter is probably the best player, but no one will be in love with the edge rusher from Penn State.
Ashton Jeanty has tried his best to drum up interest. In his interview with the Player’s Tribune, Jeanty proclaimed, “It’s TACKLE football … you know what I’m saying? I’d draft the guy they can’t tackle.”
Don’t get me wrong. The NFL Draft is going to do monster ratings on Thursday. It’s going to kill everything in its sight including the NBA Playoffs even though the NBA Playoffs are infinitely more compelling.
But the NFL doesn’t have anything to worry about. This country has shown that it doesn’t mind mediocrity especially at the top.
