Notre Dame Football: Tis the Season to Retool

Even though Notre Dame is preparing for the Sugar Bowl, the staff is keeping an eye on the transfer portal.

The Fighting Irish have beefed up next season’s wide receivers room with the addition of Malachi Fields (UVA) and Will Pauling (Wisconsin).

Fields has spent the last two seasons being UVA’s all-everything wide receiver despite having to adjust to multiple quarterbacks. He has 113 catches and 10 touchdowns in the last two seasons.

He should fit perfectly with Mike Denbrock, who will find more creative ways to weaponize Fields, especially off of play-action.

Pauling has led Wisconsin in receiving the last two seasons, highlighted by a nine-catch performance against Alabama.

Pauling can work the middle of the field against zone coverages. Notre Dame could use catches in the middle of the field outside of the tight end position.
