The College Football Playoff show couldn’t have asked for more.
This past weekend, college football saw two top-10 teams lose. After the losses, Miami and Georgia will look at every possible path to the conference championship game.
Oregon Ducks (10-0)
The Ducks took care of business against Maryland with a 39-18 win in Eugene. Starting quarterback Dillon Gabriel broke the NCAA record for total career touchdowns.
Gabriel’s 179th total touchdown moved him past Case Keenum.
Ohio State Buckeyes (8-1)
Give the Buckeyes some credit for not overlooking Purdue with Indiana over the horizon (Back in August, I never thought I would type a sentence like that).
It’s odd to see Ohio State, which is one point from being undefeated, get overlooked, but right now, that’s what is happening.
Texas Longhorns (8-1)
Quinn Ewers broke a four-game interception streak in Texas’ 49-17 win over Florida. Two of the Longhorns’ last three games are on the road. It starts with a trip to Arkansas and a home date with Kentucky before ending the season in College Station against rival Texas A&M.
Can the Longhorns be consistent enough to make that run without a loss?
Tennessee Volunteers (8-1)
The Volunteers head to Athens to play against a desperate Georgia team. Can Tennessee afford another loss? We know Georgia can’t. It’s one of the reasons why the 12-team playoff system is so intriguing. Once the four power conference teams get an invite and a bye, another spot goes to the highest-ranked G5 team. The seven remaining spots are going to stir up some emotional conversations.
Indiana Hoosiers (10-0)
I will admit that I still don’t believe in the Hoosiers. That’s why it took so long to get into the Fabulous Five. This weekend’s game against Ohio State is a “chip on my shoulder” game for Indiana. They want respect, even though it would take more than one loss for the Hoosiers to slip out of the playoffs.
