Virginia had two weeks to prepare for Boston College after a blowout win over Coastal Carolina, but it didn’t look like it early on.

Boosted by the return of starting quarterback Tony Castellanos, the Eagles jumped out to a 14-0 lead with over 14 minutes left in the second quarter.

It provided Tony Elliott and his Cavaliers with the opportunity to show resilience, and they did just that in the 24-14 win over Boston College (4-2. 1-1). The win moves Virginia to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the ACC.

After falling behind early, the Cavalier defense shut down Bill O’Brien’s offense by keeping everything in front of them. Virginia’s defense went on a four-possession run in the fourth quarter, where they got an interception, forced a fumble for a scoop-and-score, a stop on 4th-and-1, and another interception.

The defense helped the offense stay patient. After only getting two field goals in the first half, the Cavaliers offense drove to Boston College’s 2-yard line only to fail to convert on fourth down. Virginia got it to the Eagles’ 9-yard line on the next possession before settling for a field. All the good work to begin the second half, and Virginia was down 14-9.

But a Chico Bennett Jr. interception set up an Anthony Colandrea touchdown pass to Malachi Fields followed by a successful two-point conversion.

Virginia’s defense forced Castellanos out of the pocket on the next possession. Castellanos had the ball slip out of his hands as he tried to pass. Jonas Stanker scooped up the ball and ran 40 yards for a touchdown.

Virginia’s defense followed the possession up with another interception. It was Boston College’s third turnover of the second half.
