Florida State woke up happy that the College Football Playoff has expanded to 12 teams this morning.
In the past, the Seminoles’ loss to Georgia Tech would all but end their hopes of a playoff spot before Labor Day.
For Georgia Tech, head coach Brent Key’s star keeps getting brighter and brighter. The Yellow Jackets had made progress in the second half of last season. The win over Florida State has Key’s squad on the right path.
Let’s take a look at the numbers:
0—Georgia Tech’s quarterback, Haynes King, had 16 interceptions last season. The Yellow Jackets didn’t turn the ball over at all against a Florida State defense that projects to be solid.
190 to 98—Throughout the week, the story was how much bigger Florida State was on both the offensive and defensive lines. Yet, the Yellow Jackets were the team that was better upfront, out-rushing the Seminoles 190-98.
7—Georgia Tech’s front seven limited Florida State’s ability to run the ball, which put pressure on DJ Uiagalelei to improve. The number that illustrated this the most was the seven tackles for losses the Yellow Jackets recorded.
4— That was the number of penalties combined. That’s an incredible number for both teams in the season’s first game. It’s the ultimate compliment to both coaches and their players.
