Jahmal Harvey was facing a familiar opponent in Luiz Oliveira (BRA).
In a tough back and forth fight, Harvey edged out Oliveira, 3-2. Each judges scorecards had the fight 29-28. Three judges saw it for Harvey while two favored Oliveira.
First round Harvey’s (57kg) speed put him in control of the round as he stood right in front of Oliveira. Oliveira tried to time and counter Harvey but that proved to be ineffective.
Despite all of that, Harvey was losing after the first round.
Early on in the second round Harvey is making more of an effort to come in behind the jab. Harvey has gotten wild in the second round. He’s throwing power shots from too far away.
Harvey opened up the third round coming straight forward pressuring Oliveira. Even though Harvey was inefficient at time, he put Oliveira in a defensive posture but Harvey still needed a big third round to win and he got just that.
Four out of the five judges scored the final round for Harvey.
Harvey’s next bout is on August 3rd against Munarbek Seiitbek Uulu (KGZ).
