Inoue Responds; Takei Takes Title

When it comes to Naoya Inoue, his fights are typically a display of his dominant style, which has earned him an impressive record.

He comes out and excitingly dominates his opponent. That is followed by whether he or Terence Crawford should be number one on the pound-for-pound list.

Boxing fans were greeted with something shocking in Inoue’s fight with Luis Nery.

Inoue was picking himself off the canvas for the first time in his career.

Nery connected on a perfect punch in the first round, sending Inoue to the canvas in the Tokyo Dome—the place known for Buster Douglas’ stunning upset of Mike Tyson.

Inoue (27-0, 24 KOs) prevented a repeat of Tyson’s nightmarish evening.

The champ responded by sending Nery (35-2, 27 KOs) to the canvas three times en route to a 6th round knockout victory.

Earlier in the evening, former kickboxing champion Yoshiki Takei upset Jason Moloney (27-3, 19 KOs) by a unanimous decision (117-110, 116-111, 116-111).

Takei (9-0, 8 KOs) dominated the early rounds, even with a point being taken away for low blows.

The win provided Takei with his first boxing title.
