Go to KemPom and you’ll see how much of Nevada’s defense is in green but the Wolfpack came into the Colorado State game riding a three-game losing streak.
Every bit of that defense was needed when Isaiah Stevens and Colorado State came to town.
The Wolfpack (16-4, 3-3) bottled up Stevens and the Rams all night in the 77-64 win.
Nevada’s defense forced Stevens into a 4-16 shooting performance with hard on-ball defense along with a wall of defenders as soon as Stevens put the ball on the floor.
Colorado State (15-4, 3-3) shot 39.3% from the field including a dismal 28.57% in the first half.
On the offensive end, Jarod Lucas and Kenan Blackshear took care of business.
Lucas scored 28 points on 10-14 shooting that included a heat check three down the stretch.
Blackshear went 9-12 (20 points) in his usual hard hat style of play.
Lobos Keep Rolling
New Mexico forced 18 turnovers in the Lobos 95-75 win over San Jose State.
New Mexico had 11 steals and 24 points off turnovers. The live ball turnovers were particularly damaging.
Five Lobos scored in double-digits with Jaelen House leading the way with 18 points.
San Jose State was led by Myron Amey Jr’s 24 points.
New Mexico’s on-ball defense gave San Jose State fits all night. The Lobos didn’t have to double because the on-ball pressure was so effective, either the defender poked the ball away or the ballhandler dibbled into a double-team.
