With conference season upon us, expect shake ups in the Power 5 almost each, if not every, week. Villanova stayed on top while West Virginia makes their debut.
- Villanova (14-0) – The Wildcats get off to an undefeated start in Big East play. DePaul shocked some by being competitive at Villanova. It might have been a case of looking ahead to top 10 Creighton. The Wildcats took care of business against the Bluejays. After getting off to a slow start at Creighton, you saw the versatility of the Wildcats. Josh Hart’s 18 & 10 performance was trumped by Jalen Brunson’s 27. Kris Jenkins chipped in with 21.
- Baylor (13-0) – Is there a quieter 13-0 team? The Bears keep rolling through their schedule. The conference opener was supposed to be a big test as when the traveled to Norman, Oklahoma. Baylor took care of business and did it in a big way with a 76-50 victory over the Sooners. Oklahoma was held to 17 points in the first half by the Bears defense. Johnathan Motley led Baylor with 19 points and 13 rebounds.
- UCLA (13-1) – The Pac 12 didn’t do UCLA any favors by having them open up on the Oregon swing. It got off to a rough start with a loss at the buzzer to the Ducks. The Bruins were up by two when Oregon’s Dillon Brook’s hit a 3 with .8 seconds giving the Ducks a two point win. UCLA responded to the loss by going to Corvallis and defeating Oregon State, 76-63.
- Kansas (12-1) – Conference season couldn’t have come soon enough for the Jayhawks. Kansas started out their quest for another Big XII title with a win at TCU. Frank Mason III had 22 points while sophomore Lagerald Vick had 17.
- West Virginia (12-1) – The Mountaineers jump into the Power 5 after their win at Oklahoma State. Huggins’ crew has won 7 in a row after their only loss to Temple. West Virginia has four players averaging in double digits.
