Derek Carr was never appreciated while in a Raiders uniform
Whether it was Oakland or Las Vegas, Carr was always asked to take a back seat in some sort of fashion.
On more than one occasion, he took club friendly deals. Carr was the one out front after Henry Ruggs killed a woman in Las Vegas.
How did the Raiders pay him back?
The surrounded his with a horrible defense and, even worse, an incompetent front office.
Had it not been for leaked e-mails… ahem… Daniel Snyder, Carr would still be wasting away under Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock.
The best run Carr had was under interim coach, Rich Bisaccia.
Despite Carr and Bisaccia navigating all of the distractions to make the playoffs, Mark Davis decided to try to bring the New England Patriots to the desert when he hired Josh McDaniels and Dave Zielger.
Under their leadership, the Raiders still had one of the worst defenses in the NFL and McDaniels managed to lose every close game possible.
With Carr on his way out of Vegas, it’s his turn to exercise his limited leverage.
Carr let the Raiders know that he will not waive his no-trade clause.
This puts the Raiders in a pickle. Vegas’ brass will need to decided today whether the waive Carr or not. If they don’t, they will be on the hook for roughly $40M in guaranteed money.
If Carr is waived today, as expected, he will get a jump on free agency and for the first time, he will have some say over where we goes.
Carr is a cautionary tale for the players.
He did everything for a bad organization and not only did he get nothing back but, in the end, he was treated like yesterday’s newspaper sitting in the bottom of a bird cage.
