Georgetown: Tough Rebound

There’s an old adage in sports. Don’t let a team beat you twice.

Georgetown (6-1) will need to take heed to that advice less than 24 hours after an 84-79 overtime loss to Dayton.

Up next is a tough, physical Miami (Fl) team.

The loss to Dayton had all the makings of a game that would take place in March. A neutral court barn burner that had more twists and turns than a TV drama.

The Hoyas started slow but worked their way to a 44-43 lead with 14:24 left. They held the lead for all of 18 seconds, but Isaiah Abraham’s two free throws with 35 seconds left in regulation tied the game.

KJ Lewis hit a three-pointer to start overtime. It was Georgetown’s second lead of the game, but the offense got stuck in the mud. The lead lasted for 1:09 before Dayton tied it. It was part of the Flyers’ 8-0 A run that would allow them to take over the game.

The Hurricanes (5-2) had the privilege of being part of AJ Dybantsa mania and a BYU crowd so deep that it sounded like the game was in Provo.

Miami led most of the first half as they went blow for blow with BYU, but eventually the Cougars’ depth and the fact that they have the best player in college basketball was too much to overcome in the 72-62 loss.

The Hurricanes were led by Malik Reneau’s 16 points and nine rebounds (six on offense). Reneau leads Miami in scoring at 20 points per game. He’s one of four players who average in double figures.
