20 Second Timeout: Harrison’s Job Security

Will Nico Harrison survive the season?
I’m not here to relitigate the Luka Doncic trade, but let’s just say that Harrison can’t make the trade without the Dumont family signing off on it.

Any talk of Harrison being fired is baffling. The Mavericks knew that adding Anthony Davis to the roster meant a two-year timeline to get the roster to fit a scheme without Doncic.

When Harrison made his pitch to the Dumonts, this had to be discussed.

Dallas received a break when they won the NBA Lottery and drafted Cooper Flagg.

A healthy Kyrie Irving, along with Davis, Flagg, and an offseason to make the necessary adjustments, was needed the day Doncic was sent to Los Angeles.

If the Dumonts weren’t ready to deal with the heat, the trade should never have been approved.

It Takes Time Part 2
When the New York Knicks started the season 2-3, you could already hear the cries from fans and media about firing Tom Thibodeau.

Mike Brown brought in an offense that couldn’t have been more different than last season’s Jalen Brunson dribble-fest.

Brown wants the old San Antonio offense, even though I suspect there will be a balance of the old and the new, considering the Knicks’ roster.

Since the slow start, New York has won three in a row, but the Knicks have a long way to go to even have a chance to meet preseason expectations.

When LeBron Returns…
Lakers head coach JJ Redick will take another step in his coaching journey when LeBron James returns.

This season, Redick has shown his coaching chops with and without Luka Doncic.

Adding James back into the lineup and determining the pecking order becomes the immediate order of business.

Doncic is the number one, but Austin Reaves has thrived as the number two, and when Doncic was out, the number one. How does James fit into that?

It’s something Redick will need to figure out.
