Raiders Shoot Themselves in the Foot

The Las Vegas Raiders did plenty of things wrong in their 25-24 loss to the Chicago Bears.

There were the three interceptions Geno Smith threw. Each one was more horrific than the previous. Pete Carroll inexplicably went for it on fourth-and-one from the Raiders’ 35. Not only did Ashton Jeanty get blown up, but the play looked cartoonish and ended in a Jeanty fumble that Tyrique Stevenson recovered. Stevenson finished the day with a fumble recovery and an interception.

“You can’t expect to turn the ball over like that and win,” said Pete Carroll.

After a late Bears touchdown, the Raiders had a chance to win. Just make a field goal, and the Raiders can take away the good things while giving lip service to all that went wrong.

Las Vegas didn’t get a chance because Daniel Carson had the 54-yard field goal attempt blocked.

“Since field goals were invented, you got to get the guy on the edge,” said an agitated Carroll.

Las Vegas fell to 1-3.

If you’re searching for a positive takeaway from Sunday’s loss its the running game.

Ashton Jeanty had 21 carries for 138 yards and a touchdown. He also caught two passes, both of which were for touchdowns. Jeanty still got hit in the backfield too much, but today was a step forward.

“To see Ashton get cooking like that, you can see how special he is.”

Raheem Mostert got into the act. Mostert had four carries for 62 yards.

Maxx Crosby was his usual dominant self, including a tip-and-pick that ended a Bears’ drive.

Other than that, the Raiders were dreadful from top to bottom.
