Virginia Football: Coastal Carolina Wrap-Up

Season Four of the Tony Elliott era starts with a 48-7 win over Coastal Carolina.

Before getting injured in the third quarter, Chandler Morris was 19-27 for 264 yards and two touchdowns.

J’Mari Taylor ran for two touchdowns, and Cam Ross had seven receptions for 124 yards and a touchdown.

The first quarter saw Virginia miss out on a couple of opportunities. There was a missed 52-yard field goal on the opening drive, and then, a couple of drives later, on fourth and two, there was an incomplete pass.

Late in the first quarter, Chandler Morris hit Cam Ross for a 46-yard gain. One-yard touchdown run by Taylor followed that to give UVA a 7-0 lead. The drive went four plays for 52 yards.

In the second quarter, Virginia got a short field after a blocked punt. Seven plays and 36 yards later, Harrison Waylee finished the drive with a one-yard touchdown run. UVA 14-0

Later in the quarter, C Morris hit Trell Harris a couple of times on a drive, including a beautiful 29-yard completion, before hitting Ross on a dart for a 29-yard touchdown pass, putting UVA up 21-0.

Downfield, C Morris hit Trell Harris on a 48-yard one-handed catch. He put the pass in a position that only Harris could get. That led to another Morris touchdown pass. This time it was a two-yard touchdown to Jahmal Edrine. UVA 28-0

Halftime: Virginia 28  Coastal Carolina 0

First play of the second half, and MJ Morris throws an interception. Ethan Minter gets UVA’s first interception of the season. Because of a block in the back, the Cavaliers started the drive at their own 40.

C Morris’ strike to Ross gave UVA a first down on Coastal Carolina’s 31-yard line. Later in the drive, C Morris got dinged up after a 28-yard run that took the Cavaliers to Coastal Carolina’s two-yard line.

Daniel Kielen came in for C Morris, and UVA scored on Kielen’s first play under center on a J’Mari Taylor two-yard run. 35-0 UVA

Coastal Carolina’s next drive began at the 21-yard line. MJ Morris has gotten in a little bit with the no-huddle, all short passes. MJ Morris got dinged up, and Tad Hudson replaced him for a play. MJ Morris comes back in and immediately completes a pass. He seems to be ok. MJ Morris hits Robby Washington on a 24-yard pass that moved Coastal Carolina down to Virginia’s 8. Ja’Vin Simpkins ran it in from eight yards on the next play. 35-7 UVA

UVA’s Cam Ross takes the kickoff back 100 yards for a touchdown. 42-7 UVA

Kielen led Virginia back down to the red zone before an incomplete pass to Dakota Twitty ended the drive. The Cavaliers settled for a 32-yard field goal. 45-7 UVA

Once again, Keilen drove Virginia deep into Coastal Carolina’s territory, but the Cavaliers had to settle for a 32-yard Will Bettridge field goal. UVA 48-7
