In one of the worst-kept secrets, the Washington Commanders were looking to trade Brian Robinson Jr.
Today, the organization got its wish.
Robinson Jr. has been traded to the San Francisco 49ers for a 2026 sixth-round pick.
The Commanders had seven running backs on the roster before the trade.
The 49ers were the perfect trade partner. During the preseason, San Francisco has had injury problems at the running back position.
Robinson Jr. has had his own injury problems, but not too many running backs could have come back as soon as he did after being shot. On paper, he’s the perfect backup for Christian McCaffrey.
As for the Commanders, Austin Ekeler will be the starter with Jeremy McNichols and Chris Rodriguez Jr. being the backups. How Jacory Croskey-Merritt fits in once the regular season starts remains to be seen.
