I was able to pop into the 4th Annual Lethal Shooter Elite Showcase down at St. James.
The top talent in the DMV gathered to work through drills and scrimmage with counselors such as Chris Wright (Georgetown), James Gist (Maryland), and many more.
The morning started with stations, something we don’t see often enough. Each station counselor was engaged and brought energy and expertise.
In other words, the players weren’t going to treat this like open gym.
Standouts:
Anthony Brown: Brown showed out at Peach Jam, and it continued today. He plays at a pace that’s very comfortable to him, and he sees the court well. During the scrimmage portion, he consistently found ways to get his shot while ensuring his teammates received the ball on time, especially in screen action where the lifting wing had space.
He has a natural ability to anticipate the play’s development, even in an environment like this one.
Chase Foster: Team Melo’s Chase Foster showed why the likes of Villanova and Maryland are chasing him. The Baltimore native plays at IMG and is 6’9″ and has a level of physicality that can be transitioned to the college level.
What I liked about Foster was how he moves off the ball on the perimeter to the basket. In screen action, he doesn’t waste movement. When his back was to the basket, he got physical with his defender to get to the front of the rim. His game translates collegiately.
At times today, his teammates forgot about him, but that won’t happen wherever he goes to school.
