McLaurin’s Absence

It’s that time of year.

Who will and won’t report to mandatory minicamp?

Washington is coming off a shockingly good season that saw them make a run to the conference championship game. Terry McLaurin was a big part of it.

McLaurin finished the season with 82 receptions and 13 touchdowns. He was named to the Pro Bowl and was second-team All-Pro.

As McLaurin enters the final season of his current deal, it’s natural for someone of his production to want an extension. He was selected to the Pro Bowl and was named second-team All-Pro.

For Washington, there’s the balancing act of navigating a multi-season timeline following last season’s success. Was the success the product of the schedule? Was it a one-year wonder?

For McLaurin and the Commanders, there is a middle ground contractually. It’s essential for the current front office to demonstrate to the league that this organization will reward players who are a significant part of its success without making a cap mistake that could cost them, players, they want to retain or future free agents.
