Jose Armando Resendiz pulls the upset over Caleb Plant.
Round-By-Round Summary:
Round 1
Not much happened in the round. Literally gave the round to Plant b/c he was more active
Round 2
Much more action in the round. Plant worked behind his jab and it opened up a couple of clean shots. Resendiz had success getting to Plant’s body but not enough to win the round.
Round 3
The fight picked up. Plant used his jab to get inside and picked up the action. That also gave Resendiz a chance to land his own power punches. Resendiz landed the better punches. The question is, was it enough?
Round 4
It looks like Resendiz has downloaded some data. He definitely came forward more and he probed for opening. He even tried to jab himself inside a couple of times. Plant didn’t look as comfortable being the aggressor behind the jab. Resendiz stressed Plant out in the round.
Round 5
Close round. Tale of Two Jabs. Plant is looking for his jab to score and set up other things. Resendiz is using his jab to get inside. Resendiz body work is becoming a big factor. He landed enough of them for me to give him the round.
Round 6
Resendiz landed a crushing left hand near the end of the round that buckled Plant. The last three rounds have been fought on Resendiz’ terms. The skirmishes are picking up and the real estate is closer. Plant isn’t moving with a purpose like he did early on. He’s just moving.
Round 7
If there was ever an example of ring generalship it was Resendiz in that round. Plant started the round like he started the fight. He planted his feet and effectively jabbed but as the round went on Resendiz started coming forward and forced Plant to fight in close quarters.
Round 8
Resendiz continues to break Plant down. Not even Plant’s jab is keeping him from coming forward. In fact, Resendiz is flashing his own jab and it was effective in that round.
Round 9
Plant looked better in the round. He sat down on his punches. He went to the body and mixed in a low blow or two. With that being said, Resendiz was better. He worked Plant from head to body including a wicked three-punch combination.
Round 10
This looked more like what Plant wanted but he couldn’t keep Resendiz off him. Plant had distance and worked behind the jab but Resendiz eventually got inside and beat him up to the body.
Round 11
Definitely a closer round and Plant’s counter right at the bell sent a message but again Resendiz won the round with his activity.
Round 12
Resendiz closes the show! He outworks Plant in the 12th. It was close but Resendiz gets it.
