In the first meeting between Delaware and Campbell, it was a tale of two halves.
The Blue Hens were up eight at halftime but couldn’t maintain it in the second half in the 96-91 loss.
Today, 12th-seed Delaware was up six at half but this time the Blue Hens finished the deal in the 79-62 in the upset win over the 5th-seed Fighting Camels.
Delaware was led by Niel Lane’s 22 points. Erik Timko chipped in with 21 points and James Camden had 15 including a three-pointer at the buzzer right before halftime.
Tasos Cook had 19 points for the Fighting Camels.
Takeaways:
Down the Lane
Niels Lane finishes at the rim complimented Delaware’s perimeter game. Lanes’ willingness to run hard to the front of the rim led to dunks and layups in both transition and the halfcourt. Lane finished with 16 of his 21 points, either layups or dunks.
Containing Colby
Campbell’s Colby Duggan had 33 points in 30 minutes in the first meeting. It wasn’t that easy for Duggan today. Delaware did a good job making it difficult for Duggan as he shot 4-12 from the floor. Duggan finished with 12 points.
Board Work
In the first meeting, Campbell won the Board Battler, 31-17. No Blue Hen had more than three rebounds. Today, Timko and Camden had 12 each.
