Georgetown Basketball: Beaten and Bruised (VIP)

By the end of Georgetown’s game with UConn, the Hoyas looked like they had been broken down like Ricky Hatton when he fought Floyd Mayweather Jr.

The two-time defending champs had been physical with Georgetown on and off the ball. The Huskies roughed up Thomas Sorber in the post with Samson Johnson and Tarris Reed Jr.

“The officials can’t call every foul, but they gotta do a better job in cleaning up the interior way that they’re guarding my big guy,” said Ed Cooley. “So he’s getting a little frustrated with that, and rightfully so.”

Not only was Sorber in the crosshairs of the Husky’s physicality, but so was Malik Mack. The Huskies took every opportunity to bump, hand-check, and knockdown Mack throughout the game.

Mack was sometimes visibly frustrated, especially with UConn point guard Hassan Diarra.

“You could see it affected us (UConn’s physicality) on the court a little bit,” said Mack. It’s something we just gotta learn. Something we been talking about all year even during the summer.”
