Walking into tonight’s Big Ten opener had a different feel. Arena staff members put white t-shirts on every student seat as the Maryland Terps welcomed Ohio State to Xfinity.
Enough time has passed, so talk about Maryland’s ACC days is reserved for the oldest alums and fans. The current generation only knows the Maryland Terps as a Big Ten school, which is good in today’s climate. Outside of the SEC, the Big Ten is the most important conference in college athletics.
There are plenty of reminders of the Terps ACC days, with the crown jewel being the 2002 National Championship banner. You see the banner when looking at the United States flag during the National Anthem.
You could see a shadow casting itself over the arena if you looked hard enough during the anthem.
