The College Football Playoff might be James Franklin’s best friend of worst enemy.
Penn State lost at home to Ohio State, which, on the surface, is nothing to be ashamed of. However, according to the fan base, Franklin hasn’t won the “big game” enough.
Fox didn’t do the Nittany Lions any favors by having the game moved to Noon. That game is supposed to be a night, white-out game in Happy Valley. The Big Ten’s relationship with Fox took away one of the best home-field advantages in the conference.
Oregon (9-0)
The Ducks took care of business in the Big House. There’s a good chance Oregon will be double-digit favorites in their last three games (Maryland, at Wisconsin, Washington). Oregon won’t be tested again until the Big Ten Championship game.
Miami (9-0)
Two of the Hurricanes’ last three games are on the road, so they will need to stay focused. Georgia Tech shouldn’t present too many problems because the Yellow Jackets can’t keep up offensively, but the last game at Syracuse could present a challenge if the Cuse are motivated.
Georgia (7-1)
The Bulldogs might not be as explosive as they were in the past, but this team is still a handful. Georgia took care of business against an improving Florida team. It’s strange to see Georgia playing its final SEC regular season game against Tennessee this weekend. It could end up being an elimination game.
Ohio State (7-1)
The win over Penn State puts Ohio State in a position to solidify a College Playoff spot with a win over Indiana (11/23). That, of course, assumes that Ryan Day doesn’t lose to Michigan this season. If he does, not making the College Playoff will be the least of his worries.
Texas (7-1)
If the Longhorns take care of Arkansas and Kentucky, it will set up a “Playoff or Bust” game against Texas A&M in College Station.
