Changes in Vegas

No one knows more about wins and losses than the city of Las Vegas.

Its economic system is built on Ws and Ls, with the Ls helping fund those big, beautiful buildings.

The football team isn’t supposed to follow suit.

Yesterday’s game was a tough one for the Las Vegas Raiders, as they suffered an embarrassing 41-27 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. This defeat has prompted the team to make some significant changes.

Luke Getsy (Offensive Coordinator), Jame Cregg (Offensive Line Coach), and Rich Scangarello (Quarterbacks Coach) were let go on Monday.

I’ve never hidden the fact that I thought hiring Getsy would be a disaster, and it was just that, but he’s not alone.

I always wondered why head coach Antonio Pierce was telling anyone and everyone that this would be a physical running team.

With who? Alexander Mattison and Zamir White?

I guess one could argue that he wasn’t going to say that the passing game would be the strength, with Gardner Minshew and Aiden O’Connell as the quarterback options.

General manager Tom Telesco and owner Mark Davis should share the blame. They blew the negotiations with Kliff Kingsbury, who is now thriving with a rookie quarterback in Washington.

The Raiders have $34.5M in cap room. I’m not saying they should’ve given the money to just anyone; I’m saying it should’ve been used more wisely.

The quarterback position should have been appropriately addressed, especially considering that the NFL is a quarterback league.

The running back position is stacked with backs who should be third on the depth chart.

None of the Raiders’ actions in the offseason made sense.

The 2-7 record is a gift because there’s no way this team should’ve beaten Baltimore, but then again, it found a way to lose to the Andy Dalton-led Carolina Panthers. The universe felt a need to balance things out.

On the bright, the Raiders could end with the worst record in the NFL, and they could finally address the quarterback position with hopefully help from Tom Brady because I wouldn’t trust Telasco and Davis to choose a youth flag football team.
