Various outlets report that Corey Kispert has signed an extension with the Washington Wizards.
The deal will pay Kispert $54M over four years.
The signing sheds some light on Michael Winger’s strategy.
Washington has drafted long, athletic players such as Bilal Coulibaly, Alex Sarr, and Bub Carrington. The three players can be different, making defenders at their position as the offense develops. But none of the three projects to be knockdown shooters.
Signing Kispert allows Washington to stay on track with its draft philosophy. The deal is also friendly enough to be moved if the front office pivots.
Last season, Kispert averaged a career-high 13.9 points while shooting 38.3% from the three-point line. Kispert’s three-point percentage was slightly down from the season before.
