The Fabulous Five wouldn’t be doing its job if it didn’t make tough decisions like Georgia dropping out despite recording a win and Miami having a bye week. Blame Penn State’s victory in Los Angeles over USC for the turmoil.

Texas (6-0)

The Longhorns spent the Red River Rivalry beating an outmatched Oklahoma team. Give Texas credit. In rivalry games, we often see games that should not have been close come down to the last couple of possessions. Texas was having none of that on Saturday. Quintrevion Wisner led the Longhorns with a season-high 118 yards rushing.

Oregon (6-0)

You know how I felt about Oregon being underdogs if you read last week’s column. The Ducks were ready for all Ohio State would throw at them and had the answer. Oregon was down six going into the fourth quarter and responded with a 10-point quarter while only giving up three points. The Ducks won’t be an underdog again this season.

Ohio State (5-1)

The Buckeyes staff couldn’t ask for more out in Eugene. It turned into a back-and-forth affair with several lead changes, but Ohio State looked like it was out of gas in the fourth quarter. There was a lot of talk about Will Howard’s mistake on the last play of the game, but the mistake was the penalty that backed the Buckeyes up.

Penn State (6-0)

Let’s be honest. Many of the experts picking USC were based on the assumption that “this is the type of game James Franklin loses.” Outside of Oregon’s win, it was the most impressive win of the weekend. The Nittany Lions were down 14 at the half and seven in the fourth before Nicholas Singleton’s touchdown catch with 2:53 left tied the game. Ryan Barker’s 36-yard field goal in overtime completed the comeback. Penn State still has work to do. A trip to Wisconsin has danger written over it if the Nittany Lions look past the Badgers. In two weeks, Ohio State comes to Happy Valley.

Miami (Fl) (6-0)

The Canes have a date with Louisville after the bye week. With the upcoming schedule being relatively soft, Miami needs to keep winning in a way that reflects the opponent they’re playing.
