The New York Jets have announced they’ve parted ways with Robert Saleh.
Aaron Rodgers or no Aaron Rodgers, Saleh might not have been the coach to turn around the Jets, especially considering that the organization drafted Zach Wilson before Rodgers.
With that said, the current Jets debacle is on Rodgers and his insistence on being married to Nathaniel Hackett. More than anyone or any entity, Hackett might be the person who has benefitted from Rodgers the most, with Pat McAfee being a close second.
New York’s offense has been nonexistent, and Rodgers’ offense has been incredibly ordinary. When the Jets acquired Rodgers, it was a signal that they were all-in. The front office looks like they’re all in with 2-9 off-suit. For all the Super Bowl talk around Rodgers, there’s a realistic possibility that the Jets won’t make the playoffs.
Domonique Foxworth spoke about the offense’s failure on his podcast. “He’s not good enough anymore to make this type of offense work,” said Foxworth. “He used to be so damn talented and so accurate and had the athleticism to buy time that he could make the plays work.”
Rodgers tried to do what LeBron James did in the NBA. When you bring James in, the team must be committed to winning a title immediately, and he’s going to be consulted on coaching and personnel. Rodgers got the same benefit, but James has won a title every place he has been. Rodgers looks like the Jets wasted assets to acquire a quarterback who is no longer worthy of that respect.
