Orlando Magic’s 47-win caught some in the NBA circles off guard. The Magic put together a solid regular season and pushed the Cleveland Cavaliers to Game 7 in the first round of the playoffs.
Now, the Magic must answer the question: Is the 47-win a sign of where the organization is going, or was it just a blip on the radar?
Orlando was led by a defense that started its ascent in 2022-23. Per Cleaning the Glass, the Magic improved in points per possession (from 11th to 2nd), effective field goal percentage (20th to 13th), turnover percentage (9th to 2nd), and offensive rebound percentage (7th to 2nd).
The issues are at the other end of the floor. On offense, the Magic saw marginal improvement. Orlando went from 26th to 22nd in points per possession, 24th to 15th in effective field goal percentage, 25th to 24th in turnover percentage, and 14th to 7th in offensive rebound percentage.
