What a weekend.
Five of the top 11 teams in last week’s AP suffered losses, with the two most significant occurring in the SEC.
Alabama’s defense could stop Vanderbilt (you read that correctly), and Tennessee’s offense sputtered at Arkansas.
Texas (5-0)
The Longhorns take the top spot in their bye week. This week, they play in the Red River Rivalry against an Oklahoma team still looking for a signature win. Can the Sooners’ offense keep up with Texas? If they can’t, the Longhorns could win by double-digits.
Ohio State (5-0)
As the readers can probably tell, the Fabulous Five isn’t in love with the Buckeyes. Beating Iowa is their best win thus far, but that isn’t enough. Ohio State barely edges out Oregon, but…
Oregon (5-0)
The Ducks welcome Ohio State to Eugene for another signature Big Ten tilt. Oregon deserves the second spot more than the Buckeyes, but let’s let them prove it this weekend.
Miami (6-0)
The Canes are here courtesy of a couple of calls. There was the Virginia Tech escape and the arguably missed Targeting call against Cal. But let’s give Miami credit for finding a way to win both games, especially the one in Berkeley. This spot is tenuous.
Georgia (4-1)
The Bulldogs get the last spot over an undefeated Penn State team. Like Ohio State, I need to see more from the Nittany Lions. Georgia should take care of business this week against Mississippi State before heading to Texas the following week.
