Fabulous Five: Roll Tide

Alabama (4-0)
The Crimson Tide earned this with its spectacular win over Georgia, which was close to being the game in which Kalen DeBoer lost a 30-7 lead. Ryan Williams (17 years old) became a national star, and Jalen Milroe continues to Let a Naysayer Know. Alabama heads to an improving Vanderbilt team that, on paper, shouldn’t have enough.

Texas (5-0)
The Longhorns have the week off. Next up is the Red River Rivalry.

Tennessee (4-0)
The Volunteers have the top defense (total defense) in the country. Arkansas’ two losses (Oklahoma State and Texas A&M) have been competitive, one on the road and one at a neutral site. This time, the Razorbacks get to host a big-time opponent. Tennessee had a bye week after their big road win over Oklahoma. It could serve as the recipe that prevents a letdown.

Ohio State (4-0)
No team needs a big game other than the Buckeyes. While the SEC and other Big Ten teams have played signature games, Ohio State has played the traditional cupcake non-conference schedule from an era that no longer exists. Iowa might not serve as that game, but the up in competition will help the Buckeyes’ profile, especially with a trip to Oregon over the horizon.

Georgia (3-1)
The Bulldogs loss to Alabama is far from being an eliminator. Even before playoff expansion, Georgia’s loss wouldn’t preclude them from being in the College Football Playoff. Georgia has two home dates (Auburn and Mississippi State) to get back on track before their trip to Texas.
