When Micah Shrewsberry got the Notre Dame men’s basketball job, Irish fans were getting a coach who was not only a strong X’s and O’s coach but also a guy who knew the region from a recruiting perspective.
In year one, Notre Dame finished the season 13-20, but the record needs to reflect the strides Shrewsberry made. The Irish had home wins against Virginia, Wake Forest, and Clemson and a win over Georgia Tech in the ACC Tournament.
Carey Booth and Matt Zona left via the transfer portal during the offseason. The Fighting Irish are bringing in Matt Allocco (Princeton), Nikita Konstantynovskyi (Monmouth), and Burke Chebuhar (Lehigh).
While the transfer portal is a tool that almost every new coach has to use, it’s important to remember that recruiting high school students remains a cornerstone of success, especially at an institution like Notre Dame.
