Fabulous Five is MTC Media’s Top Five Teams
There might have been a lot of changes in the Fabulous Five but the change was a big one.
Texas Longhorns (2-0)
Texas went to the Big House and dominated Michigan in all phases. They were faster and more physical than the Wolverines. The Quin Ewers-Gunnar Helm combination bedeviled Michigan all day and the running game was effective enough to create balance in the offense. Defensively the Longhorns forced three turnovers.
Georgia Bulldogs (2-0)
The Bulldogs did what they were supposed to do against Tennessee Tech. The move down to number two was because of Texas’ performance not because Georgia did something wrong. Up next is a true road game at Kentucky. The Wildcats aren’t a juggernaut but because Clemson was so bad, playing a conference game is good for the Bulldogs.
Ole Miss Rebels (2-0)
Ole Miss is heading to Wake Forest to take on a Demon Deacon squad that lost to Virginia at home. The Cavaliers were able to make enough plays in the passing game to give the Demon Deacons fits on defense. If they thought defending Anthony Colandrea was tough wait until Jaxson Dart and the Rebels come to town. Henry Parrish Jr. ran for four touchdowns in Ole Miss’ win over Middle Tennessee State. Tre Harris caught nine passes. It might not be that easy this week but don’t expect too much resistance from the Demon Deacon defense.
Ohio State Buckeyes (2-0)
Bye week. Next up with Marshall.
Alabama Crimson Tide (2-0)
Alabama is in the most interest spot in the Fabulous Five. A trip to Camp Randle should provide some tense moments for Kalen DeBoer’s squad. Just like last season, the Tide struggled at times with South Florida before exploding for 28 points in the fourth quarter. Under Luke Fickell, the Badgers aren’t as much ground-and-pound but we need they to channel those days, Chez Mellusi fills that role. The Tide defense gave up 4.5 yards per carry last week. If Alabama improves on that number, the Tide should come home from Madison with a win.
