New ownership group. New coach. New quarterback.
All of the above and more will be heading to Tampa Bay as the Washington Commanders start a new era.
The Commanders are 3.5-point underdogs.
All eyes will be on the offense, which rookie Jaylen Daniels will lead. It is even more intriguing that Kliff Kingsbury is the offensive coordinator. Both want to show something.
For Daniels, there could be a smidge of “shutting up” the critics who thought Drake Maye should’ve been taken second. In his first preseason game, the confident rookie was calling audibles at the line of scrimmage. Daniels (23 years old) looks like the type of quarterback who comes out of college, plays right away, and still has a sense of calm while learning on the job.
For Kingsbury, it’s rebuilding his career after his time as the head coach of the Cardinals in Arizona. Kingsbury’s Air Raid offense didn’t take off in Arizona, and he finished with a 28-37-1 record in four seasons. He even had a losing career record in six seasons at Texas Tech (35-40). If Kingsbury’s offense works in Washington with a rookie quarterback, it will put him back in head coaching conversations.
