Davis-Stevenson Could Be Close

As I’ve written, Shakur Stevenson needs a mega-fight in the worst way, and it might be coming.

Gervonta “Tank” Davis’ potential fight with Vasyl Lomachenko has hit a snag in negotiations. Lomachenko’s loss could be Stevenson’s gain, even if Stevenson is the “B” side.

A Davis-Stevenson fight would be a massive pay-per-view for both fighters, but expect some contentious moments regarding the split.

Davis is on the “A” side and has a better resume, but that doesn’t mean Stevenson will take 25% of the pot. A 60-40 split is reasonable, but the boxing industry is anything but sensible, especially when one side thinks it has the majority of the power. For better or worse, Davis believes it has all the leverage. The Davis camp will try to take advantage of Stevenson’s need to have a quality opponent after having a couple of underwhelming fights against subpar competition.

If the fight gets made, it instantly becomes a potential fight of the year candidate with hopes that it doesn’t end up being a one-sided mega-fight ala Terence Crawford-Errol Spence fight.

Both Davis and Stevenson are technically sound. Davis has the power edge, while Stevenson has quicker hands.
