Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez sent a message to the boxing world.
Rodriguez’s (20-0, 13 KOs) win over Juan Francisco Estrada was more about the “how” than the result.
Rodriguez managed to hurt Estrada in the third round and put him to the canvas with a left uppercut and left jab combination in the fourth. It seemed like Rodriguez was about to end the fight until Estrada (44-4, 28 KOs) unexpectedly scored a flash knockdown in the sixth round, turning the tide of the match.
In the seventh round, Rodriguez responded in champion-like fashion with a crushing left hand to the body that sent Estrada to the canvas for good.
Rodriguez won the WBC and Ring Magazine super flyweight belt in the process.
What’s next?
Of course, fight fans hope it will be Naoya Inoue. A Rodriguez-Inoue fight is a super fight that will be pay-per-view. That said, Rodriguez is one or two fights from a battle with Inoue becomes a reality.
