Bennett Extended

Tony Bennett will be in Charlottesville for a while.

Bennett and Virginia agreed to a contract extension that could extend the university’s all-time winningest coach to the 2030-2031 season.

Virginia’s season was full of ups and downs, but the Cavaliers finished third in the ACC and were a defensive stop from reaching the ACC Tournament finals.

The season ended with a blowout loss to Colorado State in the First Four.

“Tony Bennett is foundational to our efforts to compete for championships in this new model of college athletics,” Carla Williams said. “He embodies everything important to the University of Virginia and Virginia Athletics. It’s an honor to work with him, and we’re thrilled about the future of men’s basketball under his leadership.”

Bennett has been ACC Coach of the Year four times, but the Cavaliers haven’t won an NCAA tournament game since 2019.
