The anticipation surrounding Vasily Lomachenko’s return was not just about the outcome, but also about the spectacle he would create.
The match was not just about the outcome, but also about the strategic battle, as it was a test of how Lomachenko’s style would fare against a fighter tailor-made for him.
Kambosos Jr. is limited technically, and Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs) took advantage of it in his 11th-round TKO victory.
Lomachenko said, “It looked like a knockout today, not ‘No-Mas-Chenko.’ But, you know, we trained hard for this moment. I want to thank my opponent. He is a strong man and a true warrior.”
Kambosos Jr’s (21-3, 10 KOs) special skill was taking punches from every angle Lomachenko could create. Kambosor Jr. won the titles from a less than 100% Teofimo Lopez and although he no longer has those titles, he’s parlayed the win into three big-time fights in his native Australia.
While there was a lot of excitement behind Lomachenko’s win, the champion’s ability to beat someone in the manner he should’ve beaten him is low.
The victory did catch the attention of Gervonta “Tank” Davis and Shakur Stevenson which was the goal.
Lomachenko has set himself up for a mega-fight and an opportunity to move past his controversial loss to Devin Haney.
