Picks and Props: The Masters

The Masters is here!

For most golf fans, especially casuals, this is the one golf tournament that is appointment viewing.

This week will relieve fans from hearing about PGA Tour ratings and the continuing battle between the Tour and LIV Golf.

One unique aspect of The Masters is its steadfast location at Augusta National, which allows fans to delve into the significance of Augusta National-based numbers.

Like anything else in the gambling world, there are things to be considered other than numbers that are specifically based but traditionally play well here.

There will be many eyes on Tiger Woods, but a deep run by Woods is highly unlikely. Woods is coming off an injury, and there’s a chance that he can’t finish the tournament because of his physical condition, or he will miss the cut outright.

I’m not big on wagering on the Win Only prop, but I will do it for this exercise.

Win Only:

Favorite: Scottie Scheffler +400

My Pick: Brooks Koepka +2000

Long Shot: Max Homa

Koepka has been runner-up twice. It’s only a matter of time before he breaks through, especially after being so close last year.

Top 5 Finish (incl. Ties):

My Pick: Viktor Hovland +500

Long Shot: Phil Mickelson +2300

Why not Phil? Mickelson finished tied for second last year after shooting 7-under on Sunday. Though it’s doubtful Mickelson would repeat what he did on that Sunday, no one loves the spotlight more than Phil.

Top 10 Finish (incl. Ties):

My Pick: Justin Rose +700

Long Shot: Bubba Watson +1000

This prop bet is tricky. As a bettor, you want value, but that can lead to picking some crazy outcomes, so there’s a balance. The caution is that Rose missed the cut in his last two tournaments but finished a respectable 16th last year.

Tiger Woods Specials:

My Pick: Either Woods or Koepka to Win Outright +1300

Long Shot: Woods, McIlroy & Koepka all Finish in Top 10 (incl Ties) +4500
