The Hoyas (7-6, 0-2) were utterly embarrassed in the 81-51 loss.
Jayden Epps had 14 points on 5-17 shooting. Dontrez Styles had 12.
Tyler Kolek had 13 points and ten assists for Marquette. David Joplin led Marquette (10-3, 1-1) in scoring with 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
Georgetown was wrapping up a three-game midwest swing with a win at Notre Dame and a competitive loss at Butler.
Tonight was a perfect storm.
Georgetown played with heavy legs against a team they knew couldn’t play up-and-down against.
Marquette was playing their Big East home opener after being upset by Providence.
Kolek’s ability to push the ball up the floor put constant pressure on the Hoyas. As a team, Marquette had 22 assists on 29 made shots.
If Georgetown wanted to keep this game competitive, they would have to be a threat from the three-point line, and they were anything but. The Hoyas finished 5-25 from long distance.
Add in 19 turnovers, and Georgetown was asking to get beat by 30 points.
After two Big East game, the Hoyas have confirmed something most already knew. This team has very little wiggle room.
