Big East Media Day: Hoyas Remember the Strength in Coach Butts

Big East Media Day is the unofficial kick-off to the regular season.

It’s the time when all the teams make the trip to Madison Square Garden for what amounts to be a preseason celebration.

For the Georgetown community, it was a time of remembrance on the Big East’s largest preseason stage.

New head coach, Tasha Butts, passed away after a two-year battle with cancer.

“When I met Tasha, I knew she was a winner on the court, and an incredible person whose drive, passion and determination was second to none. She exhibited these qualities both as a leader and in her fight against breast cancer. This is a difficult time for the entire Georgetown community, and we will come together to honor her memory,” said Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Lee Reed.

Darnell Haney will serve as interim head coach.

Kelsey Ransom and Graceanne Bennent represented Georgetown’s Women’s program in New York City.

The players spoke about Butts in the interview below.
