It’s Not About Year 1 for Shrewsberry

Micah Shrewsberry enters year one in South Bend with no expectations and rightfully so.

Former head coach, Mike Brey, left the cupboard empty but that might not be the worst thing in the world for Shrewsberry.

Operating in the shadows of the football program will provide Shrewsberry the necessary cover while he tries to wake up his own echoes.

This year’s roster is a bottom-of-the-ACC roster with potential.

It starts with the 2023 class.

A class that features three 4-star recruits highlighted by 6′ 10″ big man, Carey Booth.

If the last name sounds familiar, he’s the son of former NBA, current Denver Nuggets general manager, Calvin Booth.

Guard, Markus Burton, is no slouch. Burton was named 2023 Mr. Basketball in the state of Indiana.

Shrewsberry’s son, Braeden, rounds out the class.

That’s a good start to a rebuild but, wait, there’s more.

Shrewsberry has flexed his recruiting muscles with a solid 2024 class, including getting the much-heralded Nasir Mohammed.

Mohammed is the son of former NBA player, Nazr Mohammed.

The 24 class also includes wing Cole Certa and power forward, Garrett Sundra.

That adds up to six 4-star recruits in two recruiting cycles but it isn’t just a collection of talent.

Every spot on the floor is addressed via those two classes.

The exciting part is, if the recruits live up to their HS accomplishments, they will get plenty of playing time early.

That would set up Notre Dame for a steady build going on year 3 of the Shrewsberry era.
