Did Prograis show enough?

Regis Prograis notched his fourth straight win since his loss to Josh Taylor.

In his split decision win over Danielito Zorrilla, Prograis (29-1, 25 KO) benefited from some home cooking.

Several rounds could’ve gone either way so this wasn’t a “bad” decision. But the scorecards that had the 117-110 and 118-109 were completely off-base.

The wide scores helped nullify what would’ve been a controversial call in the first round when Zorrilla knocked down Prograis yet it was called a slip.

“The last two days, I felt the hometown jitters. The hometown fights, they are the worst. I felt it going into it yesterday into today. I got the job done. I kept the belt. I’m happy about that, but I’m definitely not happy about my performance.”

Prograis post-fight comment

Matchroom promoter, Eddie Hearn, tried to put a positive spin on the win by saying Prograis has plenty of options from Devin Haney to Gervonta Davis to Teofimo Lopez.

All of those fighters are under other umbrellas other than Matchroom.

Maybe Hearn is hoping that Prograis’ win was so bad that the good thing that will come out of it is a major payday.

If one of those fights happen, it wouldn’t be the first time a bad performance led to a great opportunity but can Prograis take advantage of the opportunity?

If Saturday night has told us anything, the answer is “no”.
