The Washington Wizards continue to remake their front office.
New President of Monumental Basketball, Michael Winger, announced that the Wizards will hire Will Dawkins as their new GM.
Dawkins was vice president of basketball operations with the OKC Thunder.
Winger and Dawkins worked together for seven years in OKC.
The great thing about the Winger hire is, he has experience with an organization that has torn down to the studs and successfully rebuilt a team.
It’s a move that Ted Leonsis has resisted but, according to reports, is on the table.
Winger’s first two hires have been Dawkins and Travis Schlenk.
Schlenk will serve as senior vice president of player personnel.
Wizards fans should be optimistic about the hires. The first thing is they are getting away from people in the building who have been doing things the old way… two, it signals that Washington is willing to try and put a product on the court with higher expectations than just making the playoffs as a 7-10 seed.
